WADE METZER
Wade (Metzer & Holfeld Family Wines) stands out as one of South Africa's dynamic winemaking talents, championing a philosophy that embraces minimal intervention. Winning consecutive 97+ point wines from internationally renowned critics over years is no short effort. Drawing from his experiences in the hallowed vineyards of Burgundy, France, and Switzerland, and under the tutelage of Eben Sadie - a luminary in the world of South African winemaking, Wade has honed his craft to perfection.
Driven by a fascination with the expressive potential of ancient vines, Wade has tirelessly sought out venerable vineyards to source fruit for his wines. Situated where maritime breezes from the nearby and cool False Bay sea; converging with the steep mountain sides of the Helderberg, his wines boast a rare freshness that beautifully balances the inherent ripeness of the Cape.
In his quest to let the vineyard's character take centre stage, Wade adopts a hands-off approach, employing gentle fruit handling by hand and foot, indigenous yeasts for fermentation, and judicious use of French oak barrels. The result? Wines that authentically reflect their diverse and dynamic origins, with a purity and complexity that captivates the senses.
